Shaun's Top Tips
Staying safe is easy, just follow the S-H-A-U-N-S-A-F-E code!
SHADOW RULE
If your shadow is longer than you, then you're safe in the sun. But if it's shorter, the sun could burn you. Keep your eyes peeled!
HATS
Wear a wide-brim hat if you're out in the sun. Not only will it keep you safe, but they look really funky, too!
AIM TO COVER UP
When you're having fun in the sun, go for cotton, baggy clothing that'll keep you cool and covered up. Also make sure you wear a sunscreen on any bare skin like the face, hands and legs.
USE SHADE
Everyone should keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, as that's when it is at its strongest. And remember - you can still burn even if the sky is cloudy!
NEVER PUT BABIES IN STRONG SUNLIGHT
Babies, like Timmy, have really delicate skin, so they should always be kept in the shade.
SUNSCREEN & SUNGLASSES
Make sure you're wearing a sunscreen with a number 30 or over on the bottle and a decent pair of sunglasses when you're out. They don't have to be expensive, but don't go for toy ones either.
AFTER SWIMMING
Always make sure you put more sunscreen back on. It washes off when you're splashing about in the pool and sea - even if it says it's waterproof!
FACTOR YOUR FLOCK
Always make sure you wear sunscreen whenever you're out in the sun. Put it on before you leave the house, and again when you're outside. Don't forget shoulders, ears, nose, cheeks and the tops of you're feet!
EXPOSURE
If you do get sunburn, tell a grown-up straight away and make sure you have plenty of cool, clear drinks - water is perfect.
