By Sammy the lamb Sep 8th 2009

Who voices Shaun? I mean I saw on the credits it said justin fletcher, but is it the same justin fletcher of something special aka Mr Tumble fame?

By Sammy the lamb Sep 8th 2009

Oh, and how do you keep dust off the puppets?
    (Dust RUINS plastiscene)

By csadler Aardman Staff Sep 9th 2009

Justin Fletcher, aka Mr Tumble, does play the voice of Shaun. He also plays Pidsley the cat and several more minor characters.

By csadler Aardman Staff Sep 9th 2009

Shaun the sheep is the same size as he was in "A Close Shave".
The sets, props and some of the "extra" characters are the same size and style as in the Wallace and Gromit films.

    How do puppets move?

By shaun the lamb Oct 7th 2009

Hello csadler, I saw the new photos why do bitzer, pidsley and the naughty pigs look different have they changed?

By csadler Aardman Staff Oct 7th 2009

icy blue - I've just got to ask whether that's a serious question?

By csadler Aardman Staff Oct 7th 2009

Shaun the lamb - Yes, they are new puppets for series 2.

    By PrettyPrincess Oct 7th 2009

How do you change BOLD back to normal, again?
    Thats my question.

By csadler Aardman Staff Oct 7th 2009

A very good question too. I have no idea.

Will shaun be making any apperences outside the TV series this year?

(Have to wait to see if a like the the new series. Sounds good.)

By Sammy the lamb Oct 29th 2009

Oh and congrats on the new bizter design. No longer is he a animators nightmare.

wishing you good luck with the new series.

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 2nd 2009

    Thanks Sammy.

I don't think Shaun has any other dates outside of the series at the moment - he's very busy though!

    By kimpony Nov 3rd 2009

    Poor Shaun, so overworked!

    By ajmole Nov 9th 2009

Hey I was wondering what the Shaun characters are made of. Are they made of clay? Or are they puppets?

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 10th 2009

    Well actually they are both!
They are a mix of plasticene (clay), silicon or foam latex and cast resin parts over a steel skeleton (armature).

    By ajmole Nov 20th 2009

Why does Bitzer and Pigs have to look different? I don't really like change. Can't wait 'till the new Series come to the US!

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 23rd 2009

ajmole - I don't think anybody really likes change but sometimes it is unavoidable. Gareth and I wrote a long explantion at the end of the "series 2 photographs" thread so take a look at that.
I'm glad you are looking forward to series 2 anyway and hope you will be able to see it on one of your channels soon.

By Sammy the lamb Nov 23rd 2009

Actually, I looked at that close up of bizter and the farmer, and Bizter looks just like the old one but a lot more cuddly!
And besides, real sheepdogs have whitish patches on their fur, why can't bizter have them?
Will you be bringing out any new merchinse, or just keep using the old ones?

By Sammy the lamb Nov 23rd 2009

Oh, and are you using the same sets and props from series one?
Am I right in thinking Bizter's main yellow has got darker, or is it just the contrast between the two different yellows on his fur? AND you haven't answered my question about the plasticene yet.

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 23rd 2009

Sammy - Thank you! I agree about the cuddly thing. His main yellow/brown colour should be exactly the same as series one - I think the new cameras may make the colour look different.
We are using the same sets and some of the original props, although they were repainted and spruced up for series two.
Can you repeat your plasticene question? I don't remember it, sorry.

By Sammy the lamb Nov 23rd 2009

Ok chris, Although all you have to do is scroll up to view it (But perhaps you opperate on a different system than the rest of us, seeing as you're a member of the Aardman staff). My question was "how do you keep dust off the puppets?
(Dust RUINS plasticene)". I'd like to know, although seeing as you use less plasticene now it wouldn't be such a problem to you anymore...

I enjoyed today's episode, but felt it was a bit short (Meaning It lacked plot), but my father didn't, complaining that all the characters had changed! However, I like shaun enough to continue watching, and I'm sure the episodes will get more action packed as the series progresses.

    By andjames Nov 23rd 2009

is there any lost epesodes ?

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 23rd 2009

Well, it's very difficult - in short, we actually can't keep dust off the puppets.
Plasticene Aardman puppets are stored off set in boxes or bags to keep the dust off. When we animate them, they get dirty very quickly - the only solution is to clean them during and after every shot. This can take a very long time. We've tried various methods of cleaning over the years but generally find that baby wipes work the best!

Please apologise to your father for me, but all the puppets have not changed. I hope he gets used to the ones that have very soon and can enjoy the rest of the (action packed)series.

By Sammy the lamb Nov 24th 2009

I'm sure he will Csadler. Can't wait for today's episode...

The BBC do have their methods though, By only showing one new episode a weekday, the series will last for 4 weeks instead of just 2 like the first series. I was so disapointed when part one of series 1 ended after 2 weeks. "But there's supposed to be 40 of them!" I cried out. I had to wait until september to watch the other 20. So, the BBC do have their logic, and they're stopping fans from being disapointed, and they're giving you more time to finish part 2 of the new series!

Can't wait for the new episode...

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 24th 2009

Thanks Sammy, very well reasoned. Enjoy the rest of the first twenty while we polish off the rest of the series!

    By jordan Nov 24th 2009

caint wait to see the snow set pics!

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 24th 2009

Hi Jordan - I popped in to see the prototype snow set today. One of the animators was testing a "footprint" technique which was working really nicely. I think the snow episodes are going to look amazing. I'll try and get a photo for you soon.

    By I love Bitzer Nov 25th 2009

Thanks csadler! I'm really looking forward seeing the snow scenes; as picture or as STS episode! Do you already know when the second Shaun series starts in Germany and in which channel?

    By jordan Nov 25th 2009

hey chris thanks for replying again , can you say how the "footprint" technique is done cheers?

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 25th 2009

I love Bitzer - They started broadcasting in Germany back in October on the kika channel... I think they've already broadcast the first 20, legomatic will be able to confirm I'm sure.

Jordan - Well, they're a big cheat to be honest, we just sit a ring of snow behind where the foot (or hoof) left the snow. We don't dig into the surface at all but it seems to trick the eye into looking like we did.

    By I love Bitzer Nov 25th 2009

Thanks csadler for that information! I'll ask legomatic as soon as he and I are online the same time! Thanks for your help! And: the new series is fantastic! The new HD quality is fantastic because you can see so much details and the new stories are very gret, too! I've only seen three but they were great!

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 25th 2009

    Thanks, Bitzer loving dude!

    By legomatic Nov 25th 2009

    Hi Bitzer, hello Chris,
yes KiKa has shown the first 10 episodes in double packs in one week end October. After this, in the "Sendung mit the Maus" starts series 2 weekly with one episode. The first 10 too. Must watch this sunday maybe its left 10 weeks till episode eleven. The Maus shows all 20 episodes, after this maybe KiKa is following the missing 10. Hope so. I had record all episodes - unfortunately in analog quality *gg* but i hope, the first DVD will be out in spring 2010.
Remember my home work -frame capture stories:
    http://www.majhost.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=213701
And i tell, this series is fantastic, the HD quality is genial and the new puppets look very amazing! I love it!
    Have Shaun - have fun!
    Chris

    By Finlaybear Nov 25th 2009

Can I ask a question which will show up my complete ignorance of all things animatory ( I think I just made that word up). I understand the puppets have body armature to make them easy to move. In the first episode of this series, when Bitzer faints and the Farmer carries him in his arms Bitzers limbs look very limp, how did you manage that?

    By I love Bitzer Nov 25th 2009

    Thanks for your help!
I've seen all whcih were shown at sunday. It's great to hear that there will be shown all first 20. In another thread, I porely don't know which, someone said that the first DVDs will come out end of december.

By icy blue Nov 26th 2009

i have seen a episode name Cat Got Your Brain in shaun video clips.i love the episode but i was confused about one thing can you tell me how did you make the space ship fly?was it done by computer or by stop motion?
    -icy blue-

    By ajmole Nov 26th 2009

I have a question about the episodes. When will it show up in the US?

By csadler Aardman Staff Nov 27th 2009

Finlaybear - When Bitzer goes limp he still has his armature inside, it's just good animation!

icy blue - The space ship is a stop motion model (it's a modification of the one that appeared in the first series). In order to get it to fly so high above the set, we shot it separately against a blue screen and then cut it out and added it to the shot using Adobe After Effects.

ajmole - I'll try and find out when the US broadcast dates are...

By icy blue Nov 27th 2009

    wow thanks you csdler

    By ajmole Nov 27th 2009

Thank you csadler! I will be gladly waiting here in the US as I have no school.

By Sammy the lamb Nov 28th 2009

Hey, csadler, My family and I missed friday's episode, due to the fact the video recorder wasn't working. Will the episodes be repeated, if so when?

PS: we love the new ducks! They're so much cuter!

    By nigel_sars Nov 28th 2009

Hey, Sammy the lamb all the episodes from last week are online if you are in the UK via the BBC IPlayer! Have a look at this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00p3ypm/Shaun_the_Sheep_Series_2_Double_Trouble/
